ST Rocks

My friends call me ST, and I hope you will, too.

This abbreviation of an old nickname no longer applies, but the initials seem to have stuck.

Years ago, when I started playing around White Rock, BC (the Rock), I was "ST in the Rock." Eventually, people shortened that to ST Rock. That, too, stuck, especially on stage.

ST Rocks is the name of this site. I'll be sharing news about my events and photography here.

Open Mic/Jam Concerts

Most Thursday nights, we look like an open mic with 15-minute sets. It becomes a jam when the artist for a set invites others to join in for an impromptu collaboration. It's always a concert because we ask the audience to give the performers their respect and attention and refrain from talking during the performances.

Our nights start and end promptly: 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m., with most of that time devoted to performances. Typically, there will be two 5-minute intermissions.

We often have a 30-minute workshop from 6:30-7:00 p.m.

We often feature a special guest artist with a 30-minute set from 8:50-9:20 p.m.

Some evenings, we will have Performers Workshops from 6:30-9:30 p.m., where the whole evening is devoted to building our skills as performers.

Listeners

We're committed to creating a great listening experience for you. The sound system is run at a comfortable (not loud) level so you can hear the performances clearly. Club 240 has a great layout, so listeners can join us in the main room with the dance floor. For socializing, you can visit with friends at the bar or games area on the other side of the bar.

Performers

Welcome to our stage, where you can play for an attentive audience who can hear you clearly and appreciate your music. We're committed to making this an excellent experience for you.

Performers, please check out:

How does this all work?

  • The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 240 graciously provides a home for our events. We support them by becoming members, your donations when you attend our events, and visiting the bar

  • We use professional-grade equipment for the best possible sound at every event

  • Ongoing costs to run the website, wear and tear on the gear, and consumables are approximately $150/week. This does not include our support for the Legion

  • No one involved in this project is being paid
