Our second Open Mic/Jam Concert was our first for 2025 and we had a blast.

The Players

We had a terrific turnout, including

Susanne, Darryl, Carrie, Laura, Philly, Kim, Mac, Larry & Warren, David, and Karen.

Susanne, Darryl, Larry & Warren, and David were here for the first time.

Darryl (a master on the keyboard and guitar) accompanied ST, Laura, David, and Karen.

Congratulations, Philly! You know what that's about.

The Audience

The night ran the gamut from people performing for the first time to seasoned pros. Rounding out the audience, we enjoyed the company of the several members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 240 as well as others in our musical community who came to listen. As performers, we appreciate everyone who comes to hear us perform.

The Music

It was a fun mix of acoustic and electric music spanning decades of material, including original songs and beloved covers. There were lots of impromptu collaborations too—music born in the moment.

We had time for eleven acts and two brief intermissions. I'm weighing the relative merits of racing to get as many performers across the stage versus a more relaxed approach. The intermissions were good because they gave people a chance to move about, see other people, and support Club 240 by visiting the bar. In December we threw a party between the holidays. We had twenty acts in four hours. That was a hustle and although it was a great time, I'm not sure we'd want to do that every week.

Observations

Opening the night with a brief mention of the Concert Setting* and Photo and Recording Policy was well received.

Things went smoothly with the sound system, and I'm expecting some new gear to make the transitions between acts on stage even smoother.

Gratitude

I want to thank Club 240, The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 240, for generously providing us with this terrific venue, and being so supportive of live music.

Thank you to everyone who comes early and stays late to help with the setup and teardown.

Thank you to everyone who helps us to keep things running.

Things to improve

Even though we had a strong turnout, we need more listeners. It would be terrific if performers and well, everybody, would invite friends to join us.

Fostering live music is important, and so is encouraging new and younger talent.

Footnotes

*Concert Setting We're committed to creating a great listening experience for you. The sound system is run at a comfortable (not loud) level so you can hear the performances clearly. Club 240 has a great layout, so listeners can join us in the main room with the dance floor. For socializing, you can visit with friends at the bar or games area on the other side of the bar.
